Chardham

The Chardham Yatra is a significant pilgrimage circuit in India, considered highly sacred by Hindus. The term "Chardham" translates to "four abodes," and it refers to four holy shrines located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Overview of the Four Dhams

Yamunotri:
o Dedicated To: Goddess Yamuna.

Yamunotri Dham, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, is one of the four sacred shrines in the Chardham Yatra. It is the source of the Yamuna River, revered as a divine mother and a protector against untimely death in Hinduism. The shrine is located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand at an altitude of about 3,293 meters (10,804 feet).

Gangotri:
o Dedicated To: Goddess Ganga.
o Location: Uttarkashi district, at an altitude of 3,100 meters (10,200 feet).
o Significance: Origin of the Ganga River (Bhagirathi) at Gaumukh Glacier.
o Highlight: Gangotri Temple, Bhagirathi Shila, and the mesmerizing Himalayan scenery.

Gangotri Dham is one of the four sacred sites in the Chardham Yatra and holds immense spiritual significance for Hindus. Dedicated to Goddess Ganga, it marks the origin of the holy Ganges River, considered the lifeline of Indian culture and spirituality. Located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, Gangotri stands at an altitude of 3,415 meters (11,204 feet) in the Garhwal Himalayas.

Kedarnath:
o Dedicated To: Lord Shiva.
o Location: Rudraprayag district, at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet).
o Significance: One of the 12 Jyotirlingas and the most remote Char Dham temple.
o Highlight: Kedarnath Temple, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and the Mandakini River.

Kedarnath Dham is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is part of the Chardham Yatra and the Panch Kedar pilgrimage. Located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, the Kedarnath Temple stands at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) against the stunning backdrop of the Kedarnath Range of the Himalayas.

Badrinath:
o Dedicated To: Lord Vishnu.
o Location: Chamoli district, at an altitude of 3,300 meters (10,826 feet).
o Significance: Part of the Char Dham of India and a Divya Desam (sacred Vishnu temple).
o Highlight: Badrinath Temple, Tapt Kund, Neelkanth Peak, and Mana Village.

Badrinath Dham is one of the holiest Hindu shrines and a key part of the Chardham Yatra. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 3,300 meters (10,827 feet). It is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams (sacred Vishnu temples) and holds great significance for devotees seeking liberation (moksha).

Best Time for the Yatra

• Opening Dates: Temples open on Akshaya Tritiya (April/May).
• Closing Dates: Temples close around Diwali (October/November).
• Ideal Months: May to June and September to October.

Day 1: Arrival in Haridwar/Rishikesh. Stay overnight.
Day 2: Travel to Yamunotri via Barkot. Overnight at Janki Chatti.
Day 3: Trek to Yamunotri and return. Stay overnight.
Day 4: Travel to Gangotri via Uttarkashi. Overnight stay.
Day 5: Visit Gangotri and return to Uttarkashi.
Day 6: Travel to Sitapur/Guptkashi for Kedarnath.
Day 7: Trek to Kedarnath. Overnight stay.
Day 8: Return trek from Kedarnath. Stay at Guptkashi.
Day 9: Travel to Badrinath. Overnight stay.
Day 10: Visit Badrinath and Mana Village. Return to Rudraprayag.
Day 11: Return to Haridwar/Rishikesh.
